Picli.com, a new site that is the “Digg for Photos” launched recently. It aims to be a site where users can share links to photo. The photos can be uploaded, or linked from other places.
The site is totally immature. There are various flaws. The biggest problem is the easy “gaming” possibility. This is how I did it:
I uploaded a few of the pictures that appear here in the blog. They automatically got my vote (like in Digg). I then disconnected the ADSL connection from my ISP and reconnected. Now, after gaining a fresh IP address, I just refreshed the page and could easily place another vote for my image. No need to close the browser. No need to delete the cookies. Very very simple.
Digg is bound to add a photo section, after a petition for this cause got a lot of diggs (and attention). I was glad to find that this wonderful feature already has a competitor named Picli. Competition is always good. Unfortunately, they probably wanted a speedy Time-To-Market.
This big hole in the voting system is a major problem. I’m sure that there are other holes, but I really don’t want to find them. I’ll leave that for others (more evil and smart people).
I hope they do improve. Such sites are needed and will gain great success.

Yohay, how have you been? I saw you had an interesting looking picture up on your hebrew counterpart but of course, couldn’t figure out what it was about! Nor could figure out where to comment on that one either!
Today, my kids ran in a 1K event and tomorrow morning early (8am) my husband and I will do a 5K. Not run, walk haha. Hey, at least it’s a start right? Remembering how you told me I ought to put more personal picture on the site, I took pics today and tomorrow will do too. Hopefully I’ll get to post them tomorrow as well..
hope all is well with you,
Ingrid
Hi Ingrid,
Well, the picture was from a local non-kosher grocery store. The writing translated to “Kosher for a flower”. The Hebrew word for flower rhymes with the Hebrew word for Passover. Pesach / Perach. I showed how this store was ignoring the law of not selling bread during the days of Passover, and also laughing about it.
Great, I’ll look forward to seeing those pictures. I’ve been quite busy with a guest from abroad (he might write a guest post here) and with my mom’s 60th birthday, but it’s (almost) over, so I should have more time now…
